Newcastle Veterans Memorial

From August 13–17, 2026, Newcastle will have the honor of hosting the The Moving Wall — a Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall replica — bringing a powerful and deeply personal tribute to the men and women who served during the Vietnam War. This nationally recognized exhibit is a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., bearing the names of more than 58,000 Americans who gave their lives or remain missing in action.

The Moving Wall will be installed at the intersection of U.S. Highways 16 and 85 on the east edge of Newcastle, offering a highly visible and accessible location for both residents and travelers. Over four days, the site will serve as a place of reflection, education, and remembrance, welcoming veterans, families, students, and visitors from across the region.

As part of the community’s broader America 250 observance, Newcastle will also host a Vietnam War Film Festival on August 15–16 at the historic Dogie Theatre in downtown Newcastle. The festival will feature a curated selection of films exploring the history, impact, and personal stories of the Vietnam War, providing additional educational opportunities and deeper context for visitors engaging with the Moving Wall. Together, the exhibit and film festival will create a multi-day experience that honors service, encourages reflection, and connects local audiences to the national story as the country marks its 250th anniversary.

This event is part of Newcastle and Weston County’s participation in the nationwide America 250 commemoration, offering an opportunity to honor the service and sacrifice of Wyoming veterans and to connect local stories to the broader history of our nation.

In addition to its commemorative purpose, the Moving Wall will also help raise awareness for the Newcastle Wyoming Veterans Memorial Committee’s effort to establish a permanent veterans memorial at the same location. By bringing this exhibit to our community, we aim to create a lasting impact—educationally, culturally, and economically—while ensuring that the legacy of those who served is never forgotten.

Visitors are encouraged to spend time at the exhibit, attend film screenings, explore downtown Newcastle, and experience the hospitality of Weston County. This is more than an event—it is a moment for our community to come together, reflect on our shared history, and honor those who served.
